Obituary Condolences

Deborah H. Dalfovo

AGE: 66 • Bear

Deborah Harrington Dalfovo died peacefully on Sunday, October 18, 2015.

Deborah's favorite motto for life was, "Bloom where you are planted," and bloom she certainly did. She was born in 1949 to Jane and Joseph Harrington in Kingston, Pennsylvania. After moving to Delaware with her family, Deborah graduated from Christiana High School in 1967. She then graduated from the University of Delaware in 1971 with a Bachelors' degree in History and later a Masters' degree in Special Education from the same university. After working briefly for the Newark Weekly Post, Deborah began working as a social studies teacher in the Newark School District. Eventually, her career as an educator brought her back to her alma mater, Christiana High School, where she proudly completed her 30 year career as a student advisor. Her job description as an advisor included her working with some of the most troubled, at-risk students, and Deborah showed over and over that she had a gift for reaching students, even the ones that did not want to be reached. In her career, Deborah had a positive influence on the lives of thousands of students, and the Christina School District community is undoubtedly a better place because of her.

Deborah is survived by her devoted husband of 35 years, John Dalfovo; her daughter, Megan Dalfovo-Szabo, son-in-law, Agoston Szabo; her sister and brother-in law, Barbara and Greg Fink; and her brother, Earl Harrington. She is also survived by her niece and nephews and her two grandchildren.

Deborah will be remembered by her family and friends for her unwavering strength and toughness and for the fierce attitude with which she approached life.

A memorial service to celebrate Deborah's life will be held at Beeson Funeral Home at 2053 Pulaski Highway, Newark, Delaware 19702 on Monday, October 26th at 12 P.M. Family and friends may call on at 11 A.M. at Beeson Funeral Home. Interment will be private. In lieu of sending flowers, please make a donation in Deborah's name to the Delaware Humane Association.
