AGE: 73 • Newark

Dinah C. Stewart, age 73, of Newark, DE, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 6, 2017.

Born in Columbus, Ohio, on February 25, 1944, Dinah was the daughter of the late David C. and Annabelle (Hooker) McFarlan. She was a graduate of Padua Academy and received her RN from the St. Francis School of Nursing. Dinah devoted her life to her chosen profession and worked with the Visiting Nurses Association of Delaware, retiring after 50 years of dedicated service to her patients. Additionally, she was instrumental in the planning and development of Delaware Hospice.

A woman of strong faith, Dinah was a longtime parishioner of St. John's-Holy Angels Church, where she was an extraordinary minister of Holy Communion. She was active in her community and gave of her time as a volunteer for a number of organizations, including preparing meals for Just Faith, via St. John's Spanish Ministry, Food Closet in Newark, and Friendship House in Wilmington. In her leisure time, Dinah enjoyed quilting, flower gardening, and birdwatching. She loved her family and adored spending time in their company.

Dinah is survived by her daughter, Cynthia M. Stewart (Todd) of Wilmington; son, Philip J. Stewart of Newark; brother, David C. McFarlan, Jr. (Liz) of Wilmington; grandson, Max Stewart of Elkton, MD; nieces, Aimee and Heather; nephews, Evan and Caleb; and great nephew, Jackson.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Wednesday evening, May 10, 2017, at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 121 West Park Place, Newark, DE. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 am on Thursday morning, May 11, 2017 at St. John the Baptist R.C. Church, East Main and Chapel Streets, Newark. Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery, 6001 Kirkwood Highway, Wilmington, DE.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Dinah's memory may be made to Delaware Hospice, 16 Polly Drummond Center, 2nd Floor, Newark, DE 19711 or to Compassionate Care Hospice, 248 E. Chestnut Hill Rd., Suite 4, Newark, DE 19713.
