Dolores (Dee) Kelleher Conner

AGE: 77 • Wilmington

Dolores (Dee) Kelleher Conner, 77, loving wife and mother, and formerly of Winston Salem, NC, passed away in her sleep on Nov. 19, 2015. She was being cared for following an injury to her neck and 3 surgeries and passed away at the Kempsville Health and Rehab Center in Virginia Beach. Born Nov 2, 1938, she was the daughter of the late Phillip L. Kelleher & Emma M. Horton. She was predeceased by her brother, Phillip Kelleher. Dee was born and raised in Wilmington, DE. She married a young sailor, Jack Conner, on Oct 9, 1957 and began a 23 year adventure with Jack and the United States Navy. She traveled the country raising three sons, supporting Navy activities, and working various jobs such as a travel agent. After retiring from the Navy, they settled in Winston-Salem, NC for the last 32 years. With her sons grown and on their own, Dee achieved a live long goal by earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro in 1990. With an artistic heart, she expressed her talent as a weaver, creating beautiful pieces that she sold under her moniker "Dee Did It". Joining fellow artists, she became a partner in the Fiber Company located in the arts district of Winston-Salem. She also shared her love of weaving by working with children and young adults helping them to explore their artistic dreams by teaching courses and mentoring at the Sawtooth School for Visual Arts in Winston-Salem.

Dee is survived by her husband of 58 years, LCDR (ret) John T. Conner; her children, John Jr and wife Colleen, Michael and wife Lisa, Phillip and former daughter-in-law Annie,who she remained close to over the years; her grandchildren, Brianne Conner-Lubisich and husband Matt, Brittany Conner-Alt and husband Cody, Sean Conner, Ryan Conner, Caroline Conner, Daniel Conner, Matthew Conner, and William Conner; and three great-grandchildren, Jamison Alt, Adalee Alt, and Killian Lubisich along with a large extended family and friends who loved her very much. She will always be remembered as someone who cared deeply for her family and was always there to help and support her family and friends.
