Dolores McCloskey "Lori" Bailey Obituary
Dolores McCloskey Bailey "Lori" "Grammy"

AGE: 80 • Wilmington

Passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 16, 2016 at Foulk Manor South surrounded by her family.

Born in Wilmington, Dolores was the daughter of the late Mary and James F. McCloskey, Sr. She graduated from Ursuline Academy and Trinity College, Washington, D.C. Driven by her strong belief in education, she earned her MBA from Wilmington University while raising her family and returned to school to become a real estate appraiser once her children were grown.

When she returned to Wilmington after college, she joined her father's insurance brokerage while also assisting him, the first president and founding member of the Blood Bank of Delaware, with membership and blood drives. Following in her father's footsteps of giving back to the community, Dolores enjoyed volunteering at the Wilmington Flower Market, chairing the Antiques booth. She also founded, with friends, the Delaware Association of Lawyers' Wives and helped publish "The First State, First Lady's Recipe Book" to raise funds for scholarships.

She was predeceased by her husband, William D. Bailey, Jr., her brother, James F. McCloskey, Jr. and her sister, Elaine McCloskey Goll.

She will be dearly missed by her daughters, Mary Page Bailey of Wilmington and Hope Dammeyer and her husband, Erik, of Newark; her son, Retired Col. William D. Bailey III and his wife, Tana, of Springfield, VA; and four beloved grandchildren who brought her such joy, Lily, William, Katherine and Grace.

Friends and family are invited to visitation on Friday, December 9th between 6 and 8 PM at Mealey Funeral Home, 2509 Limestone Road, Wilmington and again Saturday, December 10th between 9:30 and 10:30 AM at St. Joseph on the Brandywine Church, 10 Old Church Road, Wilmington. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated after the morning visitation at St. Joseph on the Brandywine Church at 10:30 AM. Burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Helen Graham Cancer Center, 4701 Ogletown Stanton Road, Newark, DE 19713. Online condolences may be made at MealeyFuneral Homes.com (302) 652-5913
