Donald T. Ryan

Donald T. Ryan, 83, of Wilmington, DE, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, November 15, 2013. Born in Brooklyn, NY, he was the eldest son of the late Bernard and Agnes Ryan. He graduated from St. John's University in 1952 then served at the Army Chemical Center in Edgewood, Maryland as a chemist until 1954. He was then employed by McKesson & Robbins until 1972, when he joined Hercules Inc. with assignments in California, Texas, Ohio, and Delaware. After retiring in 1994, he started his own business, ESRC Corp., which he continued to run until the present time.
Don is survived by the love of his life and wife of 57 years, Eleanor H. Ryan; children, Kimberly Ryan Schnares, Michael (Cindy) Ryan, and Rob (Sharon) Ryan; 6 devoted grandchildren of whom he was so proud, Rebecca, Michael, Stephen, Matthew, Alex, and Anna; brother, Bernard (Dianne) Ryan; and so many family members and friends who admired him tremendously for his intelligence, wit, and kind and gentle spirit.
Visitation for relatives and friends will be held Thursday, November 21, 2013 from 6-8 PM at Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Road, Wilmington, DE 19808. A Latin requiem mass will be held on Friday, November 22, 2013 at 10:30 AM at St. Patrick's Church, 1414 N. King Street, Wilmington, DE 19803. Burial will follow at All Saints Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to St. Patrick's Church.

Fond memories of Mr. Ryan as we got to know him through the years at Cindy and Mike's home. He was a kind and gentle man. Our sincere condolences.

Uncle Don was one of my favorite people in the world as a kid. He was so kind and so loving,and made anyone he was with feel special. He has been an inspiration for us all. We will miss him dearly.
