AGE: 94 • Newark

Dorothy S. Gamsby, age 94, of Newark, DE, passed away peacefully on January 22, 2017. Born in Claremont, NH, she was the daughter of the late Leonard and Bertha Seaver.

Dot was a graduate of Stevens High School Class of 1941 in Claremont, NH, as well as the Mary Fletcher Hospital School of Nursing. After graduating, she traveled to Florida and New Mexico to pursue her nursing career. After returning to New Hampshire, she married and worked as a licensed practical nurse at Claremont General Hospital for a number of years.

After moving to Delaware, she volunteered at the Wilmington Medical Center in the Oncology Department. Dot was also an active Lay person with the United Methodist Church, and very involved with the Women's Society and the Choir. She enjoyed volunteering with the Bill Glass Prison Ministry, working with inmates throughout the country. In her spare time, Dot was a talented poet and playwright, who wrote several plays that were performed in area churches.

Dot will be remembered as an excellent mother and a wonderful friend. She was very caring and empathetic to anyone she met and she had a warm personality that drew people to open up to her.

Dot was predeceased by her husband of 57 years, Arthur L. Gamsby; her brother, Donald Seaver and her sister, Beverly MacPherson. She is survived by her son, Douglas A. Gamsby (Mary Lou) of Sunapee, NH; her daughters, Joanne G. Nelson (Dean) of Southington, CT, and Diane G. Kearns (Brian) of Wilmington, DE; her 6 grandchildren and her 9 great grandchildren.

Dot's family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to the staff of Newark Manor for their loving, kind and compassionate care of Dorothy for the past 17 years.

Family and friends may visit on Friday, January 27 from 12 to 1PM at Ebenezer United Methodist Church, 525 Polly Drummond Hill Rd, Newark, DE 19711, where a Celebration of Dot's Life will begin at 1 PM. Interment will be held in Mountain View Cemetery in Claremont, NH.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the , 240 N. James St., Newport, DE 19804.
