AGE: 95 • Dagsboro

Eleanor M. (Evans) Banks, age 95, formerly of Dagsboro, DE, passed away peacefully on September 13, 2016. Born on October 10, 1920, Mrs. Banks was the daughter of the late Harvey K. and Elsie M. (Derrickson) Evans. Mrs. Banks was a 1938 graduate of Lord Baltimore High School, Ocean View, DE and attended Strayer's Business College in Philadelphia, PA (now Strayer University) upon graduation.

In addition to raising her family, Mrs. Banks worked as a secretary for most of her life with her last employment being with the Town of Dagsboro. She was a faithful member of Bethel United Methodist Church in Dagsboro where she sang in the choir for nearly 60 years and was active in United Methodist Women. She was also a member of the Friends of Prince George's. She loved her pets, enjoyed playing piano and singing with family and friends and was happy to share some of her famous fudge cake or homemade ice cream. Above all else, Mrs. Banks was happiest in the company of her beloved family and was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.

In addition to her parents, brothers Harry C. and Russell W. Evans, she was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Nathaniel G. Banks in 1990. Mrs. Banks is survived by her children, Dennis (Marge) Banks of Dagsboro, DE, Jehu (Lynn) Banks of Clayton DE, Robert Banks of Lewes, DE and Natalie Gibison (Richard) of Wilmington, DE; grandchildren, Kristin Mohr (Rich), Larry Drummond (Gail), Nicole Eimes (Ryan), Ashley Messick (Alan), Lauren Banks and Sarah and Laura Gibison; and great grandchildren, Abigail, Lawrence and Steven Drummond, Luke Eimes, Gabriel Messick and Brodie Banks, as well as her sister Ruth E. Davis and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, September 19, 2016, at Melson Funeral Services, 43 Thatcher Street, Frankford, DE, where a visitation for family and friends will be held beforehand from 12 until 1 p.m. Interment will follow in Prince George's Chapel Cemetery, Route 26, Dagsboro, DE.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Bethel United Methodist Church Memorial Fund, 28311 Clayton Street, Dagsboro, DE 19939.
