Eleanor M. Ramsey

AGE: 91 • Wilmington

Eleanor M. Ramsey passed away on November 19, 2015 surrounded by her family after a long illness at the end of a life of 91 years that began in Baltimore, MD in 1924. Eleanor was the second of two children born to the late Nora and Francis McConnell. She attended St. John's Elementary School and the Institute of Notre Dame High School before enrolling in Mount St. Agnes College at Loyola University where she majored in Medical Technology. Following her graduation, Eleanor was employed by the DuPont Company at the Curtis Bay, MD plant where she met her future husband, Robert Ramsey, and whom she married on October 27, 1945. She subsequently lived in Baltimore, Penns Grove and Pennsville, NJ before taking up residence in the North Wilmington community of Northwood. She currently was a resident of Forwood Manor. Eleanor was a founding member of the Northwood Civic Association where she served as a street representative and was also a founding member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish where she served on the Altar Guild. She enjoyed playing Canasta and Bridge and bowling with the "Northwood Girls."

Eleanor was predeceased by her brother, Phillip McConnell. She is survived by her husband of 70 years, Robert; her daughter, Mary Seelaus (Jere) of Ambler, PA; son, Robert III (Annette) of Pittsburgh, PA; four granddaughters, Kathryn Villarreal (David) of The Netherlands; Christina Seelaus (Brian Fulp) of Honolulu, HI, Meaghan Fitzgerald (Jason) of Denver, CO, and Erin Lyons (Tom) of Philadelphia; two grandsons, Michael Seelaus (Marina) of Santa Clara, CA and Patrick Ramsey of Carnegie, PA; two great-grandsons, Kaleb Seelaus and Chase Villarreal; two great-granddaughters, Reagan and Makena Fitzgerald; niece, Elizabeth Koepnick (Dale) Naperville, IL; nephew, Charles Ramsey (Mandy) of Mt. Vernon, IL; and a grand nephew, Reid Koepnick.

A Memorial Mass will be offered at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday November 25, 2015 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, 4701 Weldin Road, Wilmington. Family will greet friends at church beginning at 10:00 a.m. Inurnment will follow at St. Joseph on the Brandywine Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to or to the Village of St. John Project, c/o Ministry of Caring, 506 N. Church Street, Wilmington, DE 19801. Please make checks payable to the Ministry of Caring.
