Eleanor W. McCallister Obituary
Eleanor W. McCallister

AGE: 79 • Newport

After a gentle, loving life, Eleanor went home to be with her Lord on January 6, 2017, in the presence of her family as she entered the gates of Heaven.

Eleanor (Tiny MomMom to her grandchildren) was born in Wilmington, DE to Edward and Jeannette Waters and lived her entire life in New Castle and Newport, DE. Eleanor and her husband Harold enjoyed 34 years of marriage and raised three sons in their home in Newport, DE. While Eleanor worked a variety of jobs, including Krebs Elementary School cafeteria, her most loved and cherished job was raising her three sons, Dave, Wayne, and Kenny.

Eleanor was a member of Peniel Methodist Church in Newport for 60 years and was active in the Silver Saints ministry. Eleanor's pastor, RuthAnn Simpson, and staff were faithful to support her, especially in the last several months.

Eleanor loved to go to her beach house in North Wildwood, NJ, where she enjoyed Sam's Pizza and Fudge Kitchen. She loved listening to the music of Engelbert Humperdinck and made many trips to Atlantic City, NJ, to hear him in concert. She also loved her cat, Maggie (aka Pretty Girl).

Eleanor is survived by her sons David (Beth), Wayne (Amy) and Kenneth (Brenda); 10 grandchildren, a step-granddaughter; 5 great-grandchildren; a brother, Glenn Waters.

The family would like to thank her friends, Mike and Vera Sinovich, for their enduring friendship and support through the years and the wonderful staff of Seasons Hospice where she was loved and cared for in her final time here on Earth.

Funeral services will be at 12 noon on Saturday, January 14 at NICHOLS-GILMORE FUNERAL HOME, 212 E. Justis Street, Newport, DE 19804 where visitation will begin at 11 a.m. Burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations in Eleanor's memory to Peniel Methodist Church or Seasons Hospice Foundation, 220 Continental Drive, Suite 101, Newark, DE 19713.
