AGE: 81 • Newark

Elsie L. Mulrooney, age 81, of Newark, DE passed away suddenly at home on February 10, 2017. She was born in Bristol, PA daughter of the late Eugene J. and Ella E. Weber.

Elsie earned her Bachelor of Science degree with honors from the Albany College of Pharmacy in 1957. She joined the United States Navy where she achieved rank of LTJG before leaving in 1966 with an Honorable discharge. She met the love of her life the late PO1 George Mulrooney while serving and were married in Hong Kong. After the Navy, she continued with her career as a registered Pharmacist where she eventually retired in 1997 from the Veterans Administration in Elsmere, DE.

After retirement, she spent time traveling to places such as Antarctica, Singapore and New Zealand. She also enjoyed spending quality time with her closest friends and family. She was a member of several organizations such as the Navy WAVES and Lady Bug Chapter as well. She enjoyed many hobbies, especially quilting. In addition, she was very caring and generous person who supported numerous charities such as Doctors Without Borders and North Shore Animal League. She was also an avid lover of cats.

She leaves to cherish her son Michael and daughter-in-law Kimberly of Middletown, DE, son George Gries of Athens, Greece, two grandchildren and one great grandchild along with numerous family members and close friends.

A Committal Service with Honors will be held on Friday February 24 at 2:00 pm at the Delaware Veterans Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear, DE 19701. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Doctors Without Borders, 333 7th Avenue, New York, NY 10001-5004 or North Shore Animal League, 25 Davis Avenue, Port Washington, NY 11050.
