Elwood F. "Woody" Williams

AGE: 85 • Wilmington

Elwood F. "Woody" Williams, of Pike Creek, DE, passed away after a short battle with cancer on March 11, 2016 at the age of 85. Born and raised in Wilmington, DE, he was the son of the late Phantom B "Pete" and Hilda Williams.

Woody graduated from Wilmington High School in 1949, and served his country in the US Navy and the Naval Reserve. He retired from the DuPont Company after 40 years of service, with most of those years spent working alongside close lifelong friends at the Experimental Station. After retirement, he served in the U.S Coast Guard Auxiliary at the Indian River Coast Guard Station. He loved the beach, fishing, and spending time with his family and friends.

Woody was predeceased by his loving wife of 50 years, Margaret A. Williams (Anderson), brother Raymond Williams and sister Barbara Hall (Williams). He is survived by his three sons, Elwood F. "Rick" Williams (Teresa), Gregory P. Williams (Susanne), and Mark A. Williams (Donna); along with his beloved grandchildren Zachary, John Peter, Mary Sophia, Megan and Bradley.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. John the Beloved RC Church, 907 Milltown Road, Wilmington, DE on Tuesday morning at 11 AM, where friends may visit from 10 to 11 AM. Interment will follow at All Saints Cemetery, 6001 Kirkwood Highway, Wilmington DE.

The family would like to give special thanks to the wonderful staff at the Heartland Hospice House for the loving care that they gave Woody during his final days.
