Emma M. Wipf Obituary
Emma M. Wipf

AGE: 82 • New Castle

Emma M. Wipf died peacefully at her home on Oct. 2, 2016, surrounded by family after a brief illness. Emma was born November 24, 1933 to William and Mayola Wamsher in Chester County, PA. She spent her youth on Rodney Street in Wilmington and graduated from Wilmington High School. In 1955 she married Jack Wipf and they started a life together in New Castle raising 6 children. Emma worked for the Colonial School District Food Service at Castle Hills School for 15 years. After retirement, Emma kicked up her heels and started to travel abroad and across the US with her friends Doris, Charlotte and Dot. She was very active in the Weston Senior Center, and loved to line dance and quilt. Emma was a member of the Delaware Saengerbund Club and Asbury Methodist Church. One of Emma's greatest joys was chasing after her favorite cat, Miss Waddells. Her grandchildren brought her a great deal of joy and she loved to spend time with them where they gathered for weekly Sunday family dinners. The yearly trip to Fenwick Island was one of her favorite family times. Emma also spent hundreds of hours sitting on bleachers, regardless of the weather, cheering on her children and grandchildren in Little League, wrestling, field hockey, soccer, swimming and lacrosse. Needless to say Emma was not only our greatest supporter in sports, but in each of our life's endeavors. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who will be dearly missed.

Emma was predeceased by her husband of 35 years, John Wipf; sister, Mary Ingersoll; brother, Robert Wamsher; son-in-law, Bruce Bain; and daughter-in-law, Crissy Wipf. Emma is survived by 6 children: Kimberly Wipf, Jacklyn Bain, Bill Wipf (Makila), John Wipf, Dan Wipf, and Michael Wipf (Penny); 12 grandchildren: Billy Wipf, Danielle Curlett (Jason), Ashlynn Guptill (Tim), Jonathan Bain, Jesse Wipf, Emily Bain, Valerie Marcozzi (Victor), Austin Wipf, Colleen Wipf, Shelby Bain, Jacob Wipf, and Alyssa Wipf; and 5 great grandchildren: Emily, Katelynn, Chase, Jaxon, and Jesse.

A visitation will be held Wednesday, October 5, 2016 from 6-8 PM in Strano & Feeley Family Funeral Home, 635 Churchmans Rd., Newark, DE 19702 and again on Thursday, October 6, 2016 from 10-11 AM followed by a service in celebration of Emma's life at 11 AM. Burial will follow in Gracelawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to Howard Weston Senior Center, 1 Bassett Ave., New Castle, DE 19720.
