AGE: 84 • Kennett Square

Erika Muhlenberg, 84, of Kennett Square, formerly of Swarthmore, PA, died on Tuesday, April 19, 2016. She was born in Hamburg, Germany and was educated at Shule Schloss Salem. She immigrated to the United States in 1950 and studied at Pendle Hill and Widener University. She worked as a paralegal at the Domestic Abuse Center in Delaware County.

Erika was very active socially. She was the assistant clerk of the Swarthmore Friends Meeting and an active member of the American Friends Service Committee and the Woman's International League for Peace & Freedom. She was one of the founding members of a group based at the Swarthmore Friends Meeting that fed the homeless. Her family is proud that she marched with Martin Luther King in 1964.

Erika was predeceased by her brother, Klaus Fritzen. She is survived by her sisters, Theda Sonderhoff and Anna Katrin Wachsmuth. She is survived by her four children: Kobi Muhlenberg and his wife Janet Seraphin, Mimi Muhlenberg, Dela Bryan and her husband Robert, and Mattias Muhlenberg. She also is survived by 4 grandchildren; Mary, James, Sarah, and Katie and 3 great grandchildren; Parker, Ellia, and Heidi.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, May 14th at 2:00 the Kendal-Longwood Retirement Community, 1109 E Baltimore Pike, Kennett Square, PA 19348, (610) 388-7001.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in her memory to Pendle Hill, 338 Plush Mill Rd, Wallingford, PA 19086.
