Eugene Petrella of Wilmington, De, passed away on Sunday, August 28, 2016, at the age of 93. He is predeceased by his wife of 67 years, Josephine Petrella.

Eugene was born in Belleplain, NJ on April 29, 1923. He was the son of the late Elizabeth and Andrea (Andrew) Petrella, both immigrants from Italy. He attended school at Cape May Court House where he graduated in 1941.

After graduation, he and two other boys from Belleplain were among the first 18 year olds to be drafted into the army after Congress passed the teenage bill. He was proud to serve his country as a member of the 148th Engineers Combat Battalion serving in England, Belgium, France, and Germany. He served for four years and achieved the rank of staff sergeant.

After the war he attended trade school to become a watchmaker. He worked as a watchmaker and jeweller, and in retail.

He was a man of God who was proud of his church and his country. He was very intelligent and creative. His hobbies were wood carving, gardening, and baking. He was very accomplished at all of them. He enjoyed listening to good music, and stories about his children, his grandchildren and all their pets. He was a wonderful role model for all of us. He will be missed.

He is survived by his children Joanne Minchini, Lorraine Reed and her husband Wayne; Marie Agostinelli and her husband, Joe; Dianne Imhof and her husband, Sam; Nancy Petrella and her husband, Andrew Bradbury; Elisa Golt and her husband Albert; 7 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
