Eugene G. McDowell, age 83, of New London, PA, died on Tuesday, August 22, 2006, at Ware Presbyterian Village, in Oxford, PA. He was the husband of Elizabeth "Betty" Lysle McDowell, with whom he shared 57 years of marriage.
Born April 25, 1923, he was the son of the late Thomas K. and Bertha Johnson McDowell. He was a member of New London Presbyterian Church, where he served as an elder. He was also a member of the Avon Grove Lions Club and New London Masonic Lodge F&M #545. A graduate of Kennett High School, class of 1941, he farmed in the New London area before working for the Pennsylvania Farmers' Association.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by 1 son, Thomas, and his wife, Judy, of Minnetrista, MN; 4 daughters, Linda Gigliotti, and her husband, Michael, of Irvine, CA, Rebecca McDowell, and her husband, Davis Taylor, of Ashland, WI, Mary Louise Lawton, and her husband, Darcy, of High Point, NC, and Margaret "Peggy" Chilla, and her husband, Frank, of Honey Brook, PA; 1 brother, Frank McDowell, of Atascadero, CA; and 15 grandchildren. He was predeceased by 2 brothers, Thomas and Norman; and 3 sisters, Emily, Marian and Hope.
His funeral service will be held at 3 pm on Sunday, August 27, 2006, at New London Presbyterian Church, 1986 Newark Rd., New London, PA 19360. Interment will follow in the adjacent church cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Auxiliary Fund of New London Presbyterian Church, PO Box 269, New London, PA 19360.

Gene is still remembered for his lively, outgoing personality and quirky, old school sales and motivation tools and gags ( such as 'a round tuit.' Glad to have known him thru PFA ow PA. Farm Bureau.
