Evelyn Skomorucha Di Cinque Obituary
Evelyn Skomorucha Di Cinque

Evelyn Skomorucha DiCinque, devoted mother and grandmother, faithful catholic, loyal friend, steadfast Democrat, and proud Wilmington East Sider, passed from this life in the comfort of her home with her two daughters at her side. She was the youngest daughter of Benjamin and Mary Skomorucha, who preceded her in death, along with her husband Eugene "Danny"; her brothers, Edward, Joseph, and Henry; and her sister, Irene Sassaman.

Evelyn grew up on the East Side, attended St. Stanislaw Kostka Elementary School, and graduated from P.S. DuPont High School and Goldey-Beacom Business College. She worked as a bookkeeper and retired after 25 years from ABC Sales and Service, a company started by her brother Edward.

Widowed at an early age, Evelyn did her best to provide a secure and loving home to her daughters. She loved entertaining in her home, cooking Sunday dinners and holiday meals. She and her sister, Irene, met for dinner every Friday night for over forty years. An avid reader of romance novels and a loyal Phillies fan, she enthusiastically followed professional golf and tennis. Never without her make-up and smartly dressed, she enjoyed meeting friends at the Claymore and St. Anthony senior centers for line dancing, exercise classes, bingo, and lunch. She loved going on the sponsored bus trips, especially those to New York City to take in a show and dinner at Carmine's, her favorite restaurant. She was an active member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church where she was a minister of Holy Communion and a volunteer for the Italian festival.

Evelyn is survived by her daughters, Tina Kojro and Lisa Dixon; grandson, Eric Dixon; son-in-law, John Kojro; and many nieces and nephews, who fondly know her as Aunt Evie.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated in her honor at St. Joseph on the Brandywine R.C. Church, 10 Old Church Rd in Greenville, on Saturday morning, October 3, 2015, 10:00 a.m. Visitation will be held at the church, prior to mass, from 9-10am. Committal Services will be held privately at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, Evelyn's daughters kindly ask that donations be made to Delaware Hospice, 16 Polly Drummond Center, Polly Drummond Shopping Center, Newark, DE 19711.

Tina and Lisa graciously thank Evelyn's caregivers, Meghan, Linda, and Beverly from Hospice for their compassionate care and understanding. They also thank Dr. Andrew Himelstein and his staff, Dana, Robin, and Nicole at the Helen Graham Cancer Center for their most kind treatment and care of their mother.
