Francis "Joe" Dorsey Obituary
Francis "Joe" Dorsey

AGE: 77 • Wilmington

Francis (Joe) Dorsey, 77, passed away on December 30, 2015 surrounded by his family. Born in Wilmington, Delaware, Joe was third of seven children born to Daniel R. and Edith Dorsey. Joe retired after 38 years at Delmarva Power and Light, where he worked as a machine operator. While at DP&L, every Friday before quitting time Joe would be seen collecting money from his co-workers for the flower fund, half pay club, and annual Christmas party. When his co-workers saw Joe approaching they instinctively reached for their wallets. After retirement, Joe worked for 14 years at Flight Safety and enjoyed meeting clients from all over the world. His smiling face and easygoing demeanor, even at 6am, greeted everyone and made them feel at home. Joe was a very active member of St. Hedwig Church, serving as Eucharistic minister and usher and volunteering at the Polish Festival. He enjoyed Scouting with his sons, traveling, playing cards with his family, camping, and gardening.

Joe is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Dorothy Siemienski Dorsey; daughter, Kellie (Scott) Melba; 3 sons: David (Renee), Dennis (Eileen) and Mark (Fran); ten grandchildren: Bret, Hanna, Rachel, Sam, Jill, Sara, Bridgett, Parker, June, and Luke; 2 brothers, Lawrence and Gerald; and sister, Mary Breslin. He was predeceased by brothers: Richard, Bernard, and William.

A viewing will be held on Sunday, January 3, 2016 from 6 to 8 PM at Strano & Feeley Funeral Home, 635 Churchmans Road, Newark, DE 19702. Another visitation will be held Monday, January 4, 2016 from 9:30-10:30 AM at St. Hedwig Church, 408 S. Harrison St., Wilmington, DE 19805 followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 AM. Burial will follow at Cathedral Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to St. Hedwig Church or Franciscan Friars of the Atonement, P.O. Box 305, Garrison, NY 10524.
