Francis W. "Frank" Stacey

AGE: 89 • Hockessin

Francis. W. "Frank" Stacey died in his sleep at his home in Cokesbury Village on Tuesday, November 3, just two weeks shy of his 90th birthday. Born in Louisbourg, Nova Scotia, he graduated from Acadia University in 1946 and earned a PhD in Chemistry from the University of Chicago in 1953. Apart from two years in the US Army, he spent his entire career with the DuPont Company, first in Central Research and then as a PhD recruiter, retiring in 1985.

Together with his wife Jean, he was a pioneer in the development of youth hockey in the Delaware Valley, serving on the Board of the Skating Club of Wilmington and as President and commissioner of the Delaware Valley Hockey League. A longtime member of Aldersgate Methodist Church, he was also a stamp collector, gardener, and avid golfer.

Survivors include his wife Jean, his sons Tom (Cheryl) and Bob (Robin), and grandchildren Eric and Anna. His grandson Will, a Marine Corp sergeant, was killed in Afghanistan in 2012.

A memorial service will be held at Cokesbury Village on Friday, November 27th, at 11 am, followed by a reception.
