Frank N. Broujos Sr. Obituary
Frank N. Broujos, Sr.

AGE: 85 • Wilmington

Frank N. Broujos, Sr., age 85, of Wilmington, DE passed away on Thursday, May 12, 2016 at Christiana Hospital. He was born in Wilmington, DE to Nicholas M. Broujos (Brouzos) and Jennie Pavoni Broujos. He attended Henrik J. Krebs School in Newport and Henry C. Conrad High School (Class of '49) with his childhood friend and future wife Barbara, whom he first met at age 6.

Frank was honorably discharged from the Naval Reserve to enlist in the Marine Corps in 1950 and served during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged in 1953 with the rank of Sergeant. That same year, he married his childhood sweetheart Barbara at Penial United Methodist Church in Newport, DE and they enjoyed a loving marriage for 62 years until her passing in 2015.

After working as a Coca-Cola delivery man for two years, Frank opened his own State Farm Insurance Agency in 1955 in Richardson Park and retired in 1994 after 39 years of service. In 1962 Frank was elected to the Krebs School Board of Education and served as Vice President of the Board. He recommended the new elementary school in the district be named for his elementary school principal and dear friend Donald J. Richey. Frank served as Building Commissioner during the school's construction in 1965 and conducted the dedication of the school, which is still in operation in Newport.

In 1969 Frank was elected the first president of the new Conrad Area School District (now Red Clay School District). Upon his retirement for the Board in 1976, the Delaware State Legislature honored him for his 14 years of continuous service as a school board member of the Krebs and Conrad Area School Districts.

Frank was active as a Boy Scout and later as an Assistant Scoutmaster. For many years he coached little league baseball teams in the Newport area. He was a member and director of the Christiana Hundred Lions Club and served on the Banning Park Planning Committee. Frank was also a charter member of the General Thomas Holcomb Detachment, Marine Corps League, a former member of American Legion Post 28, Millsboro, DE, as well as a member of the Marine Corps Heritage Foundation.

Frank was a loving husband, father and grandfather whose dedication to (and pride in) his family was unsurpassed and obvious to everyone who knew him. He was a devout Christian whose faith was evident every day and especially during his illness.

Frank and Barbara enjoyed traveling around the world with State Farm and in retirement they took more than a dozen cruises to Alaska, Bermuda, Canada and the Bahamas. Frank enjoyed crabbing, boating, jetskiing and spending time with his family at his summer home in Rehoboth.

Frank was predeceased by his parents; wife, Barbara; daughter (and "Daddy's little girl"), Kathy; and grandson, Nick. He is survived by his three sons, Mike (Debbie) of Newark, DE, Doug (Karen) of Annapolis, MD and Frank (Leticia) of Wilmington, DE. He is also survived by his nine grandchildren, Heather, Caroline, Elli, Kemp, Tucker, Marissa, Nicholas, Kristen, and Lauren; as well as four great-grandchildren; his son-in-law Ralph Ventresca; his brothers, John (Louise) of Pittsburgh, PA, and Michael (Linda) of Wilmington, DE; as well as many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank the staff at Christiana Hospital and Cadia Rehabilitation, and especially Dr. Robert Winter and his staff for their many years of caring for Frank.

A viewing will be held on Monday, May 16, 2016 from 5-7PM at the Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Road, Pike Creek and again on Tuesday, May 17, 2016 at St. Mark's United Methodist Church, 1700 Limestone Road, Wilmington, DE 19804 from 10-11AM, where a funeral service will immediately follow at 11AM. Burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Frank's memory to St. Mark's United Methodist Church, 1700 Limestone Road, Wilmington, DE 19804.
