Gary P. Andres Obituary
Gary P. Andres

AGE: 68 • Dover

Dover resident Gary Philip Andres died from Alzheimer's disease complications on Wednesday, July 27, 2016 at the Delaware Hospice Center, Milford. He was 68.

A First State resident of nearly four decades, Mr. Andres was born May 25, 1948 in St. Mary's, PA to the late James Andres and Eileen Lecker Andres.

After graduating from Clarion College and earning a master's degree at Pennsylvania State University, he wrote sports copy as a stringer at the Delaware State News and reported for Delaware Newsweek. He later worked as the Sports Information Director at Delaware State College, and spent most of his 30 years as an educator teaching at Dover High School.

A voracious reader and avid trout huntsman all his life, Mr. Andres could deconstruct a Faulkner novel or fillet a freshwater fish with the same high level of skill and enjoyment.

He is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Linda Gabrish Andres of Dover; children, Alexis Andres of Princeton, NJ, Zabrina Anzyl and her husband Derek of College Park, MD, Lauren Langford and her husband Tom of New Haven, CT and Marisa Andres of Arlington, VA; siblings, Mary Jo Wehler and her husband Jerry of St. Mary's, PA, and Andy Andres and his wife Chris of Las Vegas, NV; and his beloved golden retriever, Malz. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Bill Andres.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, August 6, 2016 at Torbert Funeral Chapel, 61 S. Bradford Street, Dover, DE. A reception will follow at Maple Dale Country Club.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to Delaware Hospice Center, 911 S. Dupont Highway, Dover, DE 19901 or the Salvation Army (his favorite charity), PO Box 308, Wilmington, DE 19899.
