George J. Wilkerson, Sr.,

AGE: 72 • Wilmington

Mr. Wilkerson departed this life on January 16, 2016. He was born on April 21, 1943 in Wilmington, Delaware to the late William Thomas and Marion Mae Wilkerson.George attended Howard High School, retired from the Water Division of the Department of Public Works for the City of Wilmington after 32 years of service, and was a considered a local legend as a jazz drummer.

He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Florence Jeanette Wright, Lem Winchester, Mildred Cannon, Joseph, Harrison, Courtland, Marion Brown, William, Jr., Oscar Leroy, Preston, Iris Jolly, and Barbara Ann Frazier; and step-son Willie Whye. George is survived and cherished by his wife of 43 years, Freda Mae Whye Wilkerson; sons Lewis Lott (Rina) and George Jr.; step-daughter Niokee Whye; step-sons Glenn, Quentin, and Mark Whye; sisters Mary Louise Purnell (Wayne) and Ida Washington (Tony), brother Norman; 8 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, other family members, and friends. A funeral service will be held 6PM, Friday, January 22nd at St. Paul UAME Church, 3114 N. Market St., Wilmington, Delaware; viewing 4pm-6pm. Burial, Private.
