AGE: 90 • North East

George Cantwell Rhudy, 90, of North East, MD, passed away Sunday, August 14, 2016, in the Calvert Manor Healthcare Center, Rising Sun, MD. A lifelong resident of North East, he was born on August 21, 1925, in Elkton Hospital. He was the son of the late James C. and Mary E. (Kinser) Rhudy. He was the husband of the late Lizzetta Logan Rhudy, who died on April 1, 2005. Mr. Rhudy served his country proudly during World War II in the U.S. Army Air Corps as an Air Cadet. Prior to his retirement, he was a block operator for the Pennsylvania Railroad and later a freight agent for Conrail. Community involvement was a priority to him. He was a member of North East United Methodist Church and was the longest serving member of the North East Fire Company. In addition, he was a member and past president of the North East Lions Club, volunteered along with his wife at Perry Point VA Medical Center and served as a magistrate in Cecil County. Mr. Rhudy wrote several newspaper columns including, "Caught on the Fly" and "By George" for the Cecil Democrat and the Advertiser. In his spare time, he enjoyed duck hunting, fishing, gardening, but most of all he enjoyed his family. Survivors include his two daughters: Sharon R. Rosenberg (Charles) and Bonnie Sue Simmons (Ken) all of North East, MD; a grandson; Logan Rosenberg (Milly) of Walland, TN; and a granddaughter; Morgan DeWeese (Brandon) of Elk Neck, MD. Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 18, 2016 from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Crouch Funeral Home, P.A., 127 South Main Street, North East, MD. Funeral service, conducted by Rev. Ray F. Graham and Rev. Bert Jicha, will be held Friday, August 19, 2016, at 11:00 am at North East United Methodist Church, 308 South Main Street, North East, MD. Interment will follow in North East Methodist Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Ladies Auxiliary of North East Fire Company, in care of the funeral home. For condolences, please visit
