Captain Gerald Lee Reynolds, 77, of Milton, Del., passed away Wednesday, Nov. 2, 2016 at Milford Center.

He was born in Milford, DE on January 23, 1939. He graduated from Milton High School, "Class of 1957", he served as class president and played basketball, baseball and football.

He served in the U.S. Marine Corp from 1957 to 1960. Prior to joining the Delaware State Police, he worked for the Rehoboth and Milton Police Departments. He retired as a Captain of the Delaware State Police (April 2 1962-April 2, 1982) after 20 years. During his career, he was a Trooper, K-9 Unit, Detective, Recruit Trainer, Director of Training, and Troop Commander of Troop 4 in Georgetown from 1978 to 1982. He attended the FBI Academy in Quantico, Virginia for 3 months.

He also owned and operated Reynolds Transfer, Inc. with his son, Rocky Reynolds.

He was very involved in his community, he served as President, coach and umpire for the Milton Little League, member of the Milton Fire Dept., board director and member of the Milton Lions Club and a member of the Knights of Columbus, V.F.W, and the Milford Elks Club. He served on the Cape Henlopen School Board from 1976-1981 and for one year as board President. For 40 years, he was on the Board of Directors for the Delaware State Police Credit Union.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 36 years, Sandra Elizabeth (Workman) Reynolds, Parents, James Reynolds and Hannah Johnson, brothers, James Reginald Reynolds and Richard T. "Dickie" Johnson, grandson, Jacob Lee Reynolds, father-in-law, Willard "Doc" Workman and brother-in-law, Willard "Allyn" Workman.

He is survived by his wife of 11 years, Sally (Cowgill) Reynolds; 3 children, Randy Reynolds, Rocky Reynolds, both of Milton and Nicole Irish and husband, Craig of Estero, Florida; 7grandchildren, Jordan Reynolds and wife Crystal, Casey Reynolds, Dylan Reynolds, Colby Reynolds, Morgan Reynolds, Taylor Irish and Briar Reynolds; 2 great-grandchildren, Emma Reynolds and Jacob Reynolds; sister, Cheryl Ward and husband Jerry; mother-in-law, Louise Workman; 2 step-children, Matthew Dickey of Annapolis, MD and Sarah Feist of Rehoboth Beach and their children; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, November 8, 2016 at 1:00 pm in the chapel of Eagles Nest Fellowship Church, 26633 Zion Church Road, Milton, DE. A visitation will be held Monday, November 7, 2016 from 6 to 8 pm at Short Funeral Services, 416 Federal St. Milton.

Interment will be held in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Milton, DE.
