Glenda Matthews "gg" Green Obituary
Glenda "GG" Matthews Green

AGE: 76 • Wilmington, Del.

Glenda "GG" Matthews Green (76) passed away peacefully on January 31, 2017 surrounded by her loving family and friends. She is survived by her daughter, Leslie (Green) Shapiro, Leslie's husband Aaron, and her granddaughter Catherine; her sister Dinah Vance and Dinah's husband Henry Vance; and her brother Tucker Matthews and his wife, Helen Matthews. Glenda was predeceased by her husband Art Green, her sister Velma Pennington and Velma's husband Joseph Pennington, Jr., and her mother, Sallie Baker.

Glenda was a marketing research analyst with the DuPont Company. During her career, she was involved with many DuPont businesses including most of the consumer product/service related businesses where she developed a broad understanding of consumer behavior as it relates to marketing. Glenda also co-developed and taught strategic market planning, branding and positioning courses. She served as a judge for the American Marketing Association EFFIE awards which recognizes outstanding marketing and advertising. She was a board member of AME International (Advertising Marketing Effectiveness) and served on the National Sporting Goods Manufacturing Association's Research Council. Glenda also served on the boards of the Boys & Girls Club, Junior Achievement, Mental Health Association of Delaware, Child Inc. and the Delaware Curative Workshop.

A native of Wilmington Delaware, Glenda traveled the world and lived for several years in Hong Kong and Sao Paulo, Brazil. Glenda earned both her MS and BA degrees from the University of Delaware.

She loved music, particularly classical, was a season subscriber to the Delaware Symphony, and sang with the Delaware Valley Chorale. Glenda played both piano and organ "by ear" and delighted her family with this wonderful talent every Christmas Eve. She wrote poetry and painted, often producing beautiful gifts for family and friends. But her greatest gifts were her empathy and love that she freely gave to all who knew her.

A memorial service will be held at Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 2313 Concord Pike, Wilmington, Delaware on Saturday, February 11, 2017. Visitation with family will be at 10 a.m. and the service will begin at 11 a.m..
