Gwen Elizabeth Montgomery Obituary
Gwen Elizabeth Montgomery

AGE: 6 Weeks • Wilmington

Gwen Elizabeth Montgomery, infant daughter of James and Rebecca Montgomery (Melson), went to be with the Lord while in the arms of her Mommy and Daddy and surrounded by family and friends on Sunday, October 11, 2015 at Nemours A. I. duPont Children's Hospital.

Gwen was born on August 24, 2015. She touched and opened so many hearts during her six weeks of life and so very many hearts were broken when she went home to be with God. Not only is Gwen an angel, but a hero. Her parents wanted to teach her to be loving, caring and selfless. Gwen is an organ donor. She will live on not only in the hearts of her loved ones, but through all she was able to provide hope to through the gift of life.

Mommy and Daddy's favorite moments were those as a family of three as Gwen would gaze back and forth at them with her "doe" eyes. She loved the sounds of Daddy's voice singing country songs and Mommy's voice reading to her each day. Gwen's complex mind drew her to patterns and stripes and she loved her play mat, monkey and zebra. She adored laying on her Daddy's chest - her favorite spot. From the moment Mommy felt the first kick, Gwen was her world, her everything and her heart and soul. From bath time to bedtime and all the precious moments throughout the day, cherished memories were made of trips to the bay, precious outfits with matching shoes and head bands, and a bonding love like no other. She made all Mommy and Daddy's dreams come true.

Gwen is survived by her parents James and Rebecca Montgomery (Melson); grandparents, Frank and Diane Montgomery of Linn, West Virginia, and Rick and Barbara Melson of Wilmington, Delaware; great-grandparents, James and Rozela Montgomery, Raymond and Marjorie Golden, and William Petrone; Uncle Chris Montgomery; Aunt Jessica Montgomery; and her beloved great aunts, uncles and cousins who loved her dearly and made an extra special impact in her short life.

The visitation will be held at the Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Road, Pike Creek on Wednesday, October 14 from 5:00-7:00PM. She will be laid to rest privately.

The family would like to thank the entire hospital staff at A.I. duPont Children's Hospital (with special mention to Ben, Julie, Kathy, and Dr. Perry); The United States Air Force Squadron 436 APS, Dover, Delaware; Dover Police and EMTs; and dear friends (Jaime, Casey, Cortney, Sara, Valerie, Kelly and Angela).

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in memory of Gwen to the Nemours A.I. duPont Children's Hospital, 1600 Rockland Road, Wilmington, DE 19803 (www.nemours.org).
