Harley K. Long

Harley King Long, age 79, of Elkton, MD, passed away Friday, December 18, 2015. Born in Roxanna, DE, on January 28, 1936, he was the son of the late Martin and Pauline Long.

Mr. Long was a U.S. Army veteran. He retired after 31 years of service from the Chrysler Corporation, Newark, DE, where he was a material handler. Mr. Long was an active member of Elkton United Methodist Church. Other memberships included UAW Local #1183, Newark, Loyal Order of Moose, Lodge #851, Union Lodge #48 AF&AM, and American Legion Cecil Post #15, all in Elkton. Mr. Long loved being with his family. He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed bowling.

Survivors include his wife of 53 years, June Long; children, George E. Graff and Terry L. VanDenHeuvel (Michael R.), both of Elkton, MD; granddaughters, Holly E. VanDenHeuvel, Alison L. VanDenHeuvel and Sarah D. Graff; and siblings, Ann Mitchell and Throt Long, both of Millsboro, DE.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Long was preceded in death by his siblings, Agnes Daisy, Francis Long and Maxine Sharp.

Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, December 22, 2015, at Hicks Home for Funerals, 103 W. Stockton Street, Elkton, MD 21921. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. with a Masonic Lodge service beginning at 10:45 a.m. Interment with military honors will be in Gilpin Manor Memorial Park, Elkton.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Elkton United Methodist Church, in care of the funeral home at the above address.
