Helen D. Jezyk Obituary
Helen D. Jezyk

AGE: 94 • Wilmington

Helen (Durka) Jezyk joined the love of her life, Stanley, in heaven on Sunday, May 1, 2016. She was born in 1921 to Helena (Przybysz) and John Durka in Wilmington, DE. She was the youngest of four children, was raised in Hedgeville on Van Buren Street and attended St. Hedwig's church and school. But out of necessity, she and her sister Mary needed to go to work at an early age because her father passed away when she was only 14 years old. She worked for Bird Speakman and then Jo Robinson, initially as a seamstress and then as a purchaser for the company. During World War II, she had a long distance relationship with her future husband, Stanley, as he was a Navy Seabee in the Pacific. Once he returned, they married in 1945 and she continued to work as they began their marriage. They had four children to which she devoted much of her life. The Jezyks were long time members of St. Matthew's parish in Woodcrest, where Helen was active in the BVM Sodality and several parish activities. In recent years, Helen resided at Forwood Manor and moved to the Lorelton 5 months ago.

She is survived by her children, Judy Gallagher (Tom), David Jezyk (Janice May), Joseph Jezyk (Debbie Starobynski-Jezyk) and Elizabeth Jezyk-McElwee (Pat); her grandchildren, Matthew Jezyk, Benjamin Jezyk, Micah Gallagher, Jonathan Jezyk, Sarah Gallagher and Angela (Jezyk) Sanderson; her beloved niece, Debbie (Marchlak) Palese; her 8 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Helen is predeceased by her beloved husband, Stanley R. Jezyk, her sister, Mary (Durka) Marchlak and her brothers, Msgr. Stanislaus Durka and Anthony Durka.

Please join us to celebrate Helen's life. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at Immaculate Heart of Mary, 4701 Weldin Road, Wilmington at 10:00 am on Wednesday May 11, 2016. Burial will follow in All Saints Cemetery. Friends are invited to visit with the family on Tuesday May 10, 2016 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at CHANDLER FUNERAL HOME, 2506 Concord Pike, Wilmington.

In lieu of flowers, family requests donations to Sojourner's Place, 2901 Northeast Blvd., Wilmington DE 19802 or www.sojournersplace.org.
