Helen Mae Hazewski Obituary
Helen Mae Hazewski

AGE: 88 • Wilmington

Beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, passed away on Nov. 28, 2015, after a long illness.

Helen was born June 9, 1927 in Wilmington and resided here all her life. She was preceded in death by her parents ("Mac" and Nellie McElwee), and siblings, William and Betty. Helen is survived by her husband, Daniel K. Hazewski, her devoted and loving partner of 54 years, who never left her side. She is survived by six children, Thomas W. Sinex of Wilmington, Daniel P. Hazewski (Jan)of S. Glens Falls, NY, Donald F. Sinex of Rutland, VT, Joanne N. Scullion (Bill) of Bear, Donald Hazewski (Carole) of Newark, and Linda H. Macleary (Don) of Wilmington. Helen is also survived by 14 grandchildren, and 18 great-grandchildren.

A devout Blue Hen football fan, Helen and Danny followed UD football with friends and family. Season ticket holders for years, they were well known spectators. She belonged to the American Legion Stahl Post 30 (and other organizations supporting WW2 soldiers such as the American Legion Women's Auxiliary). Helen retired from Litho-Print in Wilmington, in 1989.

Helen was the" life of the party". Warm and fun spirited, she always made people laugh. She was welcoming, gracious, and had a huge heart. She had many friends and touched all with her humor, kindness, and selflessness. Helen has been, and will continue to be, a gift for all who knew her. One last thing - We should all raise our glasses in her honor and say, " Here's looking up your ancestors!"

Friends and family may call Monday evening, Dec 7, from 6 - 8 pm at Krienen-Griffith Funeral Home, 1400 Kirkwood Why., Elsmere, DE 19805. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Elizabeth R.C. Church, 809 S Broom St, Wilmington, DE 19805, Tuesday, Dec 8 at 11:00 am, followed by burial at Delaware Veterans Cemetery. Helen was an advocate for animals and contributions in her honor can be made to Delaware Humane Society or Faithful Friends.
