Helen Theresa (Rhodes) Setting

1926 - 2015 Obituary Condolences
Helen Theresa (Rhodes) Setting

AGE: 89 • Wilmington

Helen Theresa Setting of Wilmington peacefully passed on Tuesday, September 8, 2015 with her family beside her. Helen was born in Wilmington on July 25, 1926 to the late Elmer and Catherine Rhodes. She was a wonderful mother to her 11 children and beautiful wife to her departed husband, Jim, with whom she is now reunited. Helen was truly a wonderful sister, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great-great grandmother who had nothing but love for all of her family.

Helen will be so dearly missed by her children, James J. Setting, Jr (wife, Mary Ann), Margaret Ann McKay (deceased husband, John) Dennis G. Setting, (wife, Maryellen), Lawrence E. Setting, (wife, Paula), Theresa M. Owens (husband, Earl), Catherine M. Morgan (husband, Robert), George A. Setting, (wife, Maureen), Anthony P. Setting (wife, Deborah), Robert John Setting, (fiancée, Carla), Elmer M. Setting, (wife, Deborrah), Thomas E. Setting, (wife, Rebecca); 20 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; and three great-great grandchildren. In addition, Helen is survived by her sisters, Margaret Haughney, Rita Minner, Marie Catullo, Sr. George Mary Rhodes, OSF and Sr. Jamesanne Taggart, OSF.

Helen was predeceased by her sister, Jeanie Fischer; and her brothers, Jerry Rhodes, Rev. George V. Rhodes, Henry Rhodes and Joseph Rhodes.

Helen took great pains to ensure the bonds of her family would run deep in love, respect and integrity, and her children live that legacy every day. She always had the time for anyone who walked in the door, she would be the first to feed you, listen to your woes and make you feel loved and appreciated. Helen was always giving and caring for others and never asked for herself. Her life revolved around all of her family and always went out of her way to ensure everyone was cared for and content.

Words could never tell the full story of the wonderful, beautiful and loving woman Helen was - she lived for her children and children's children. Helen was the blueprint to being the most prestigious role model wife and mother, and could have given lessons to Dear Abbey. She epitomized the word homemaker as she raised 11 children and made it look easy and enjoyable. Her family never wanted for anything and her home was where everyone wanted to be.

Heaven has gained an angel and the world will be a little short, but her time will never be forgotten and her journey is what legends are made of. Oh Helen, you will be so sorely missed and your family will always be the rock you raised us to be.

Family and friends are invited to visit at the Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Road, Pike Creek on Sunday, September 13 from 2:00-6:00PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Ann's Church, Gilpin Avenue and Union Street, Wilmington on Monday, September 14 at 11:00AM. Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Helen may be made to Heartland Hospice, 256 Chapman Road, Suite 102, Newark, DE 19702.
