Ilse M. Trewhella

AGE: 88 • Wilmington

Ilse Marie Trewhella, 88 entered into eternal rest, on Thursday, September 10, 2015 was born in Manhattan, NYC on May 21, 1927 the day of Charles Lindburgh's historic trans-Atlantic flight, to Marie and Oscar Mueller originally from Emmendingen Germany. She graduated from High School in Staten Island, NY and upon graduation from the Katherine Gibbs School of Business, began work in a law firm on Wall Street and later for Representative Pete Williams. She met her husband, CPT Robert W. Trewhella, following WWII at Trinity Lutheran Church, Staten Island, NY where they were wed and then moved to Linden, NJ where she and Robert worked for National Lead. Following the births of their two children, Jeffrey and Jeanne, she began a decades long career as guidance secretary in the Linden School system. She also served as secretary for the St Paul's Lutheran Church council in Linden where they were members. Following her husband's death in 1990, she volunteered daily at Runnel's Specialty Hospital where her mother, Marie, was hospitalized, receiving their highest award for thousands of volunteer hours. She relocated to Glen Gardner, NJ and worked at several other jobs, and, as a true pet lover, volunteered endlessly at Tabby's Place, at cat sanctuary in Flemington. Ilse moved to Sunrise of Wilmington in 2009 following heart surgery, loved it, and became very active among the residents, and beloved by the house dog, Dolly. She loves music and has enjoyed her grandchildren's, Michael and Corinne, performances throughout the years. She is a beautifully generous, loving, caring and giving woman who cared tirelessly for her family and friends her entire life. She will be tremendously missed by all she touched.
