IRMA W. TAYLOR, loving wife, self-taught portrait artist, poet and song writer, avid reader, and great cook went home to spend eternity with The Lord on April 8, 2016 at the age of 98.

She was born in Wilmington, DE to Viola Keen Wright and William P. Wright. Irma graduated from P. S. DuPont High School in 1937. She was married to Bayard G. Taylor in 1949 until his death in 1972. While they had no children, she helped to raise her two nieces, Alma Seekford Vowell and Betty Seekford Spicknall. In 2012, she went to live with Alma & Larry Vowell and her sister Sallie Volk in Annapolis, MD, later moving to Wedowee, AL in Nov. 2015.

Irma retired from Hercules Powder Co. in 1976. For 31 years, she attended Eastlake Methodist Church, Wilmington, DE, founded by her grandfather, Walter Keen. She was a founding member of Bethel Baptist Church in 1952 and was active in the Choir, services at Gilpin Hall, a home for the aged, and a number of children's ministries. After over 50 years of membership at Bethel Baptist Church, she became a member of Shellburne Bible Church, where she kept her membership until her death. She was a member of the Wilmington Aglow ministries for 18 years.

Irma was predeceased by siblings William Wright, Florence Hartley, Esther Shipp, Walter Wright and Sallie Volk. She is survived by her sisters Myra Turner and Betty Ashley and numerous nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her family in Wilmington, DE, Frances Pope, Sharon Jones, Carol Gripp and their families, who loved and cared for her.

A celebration of her life will be on Friday, April 15, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Shellburne Bible Church, 4 Newark Union Public Road, Wilmington, DE 19803 where friends may call after 10:00 a.m. Pastors Gayle Ryle and Bob Jones will be officiating. Burial will be private at Gracelawn Memorial Park. The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, memorials be made in her memory to Shellburne Bible Church.
