Dr. Irvin Hockstein

Age 93, passed away on December 1, 2015.

Born in Philadelphia, PA, Irv graduated from Temple University School of Dentistry and served in both the United States Army and United States Navy. He practiced Orthodontics for nearly 50 years and took pride in putting smiles on children's faces. Irv served many underpriviledged children by providng them free Orthodontics services. He served as President of the Delaware Dental Society and served in many roles within the Delaware Jewish Community. Irv had many hobbies including photography; music; and collecting stamps, Israeli coins and Asian art. He loved technology and even built his own television set in the 1960s which lasted over 20 years. Irv took pride in his own home - by doing his own gardening and cleaning his gutters until he was 75 years old.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Sara; children, Lee Harris, Alan Hockstein, Richel Stowell (Steve), Ken Hockstein (Kim) and Neil Hockstein (Carolyn Glazer Hockstein); brother, David Hockstein (Carolyn); sister, Marilyn Shubin (Josh); grandchildren, Adam, Dylan, Drew, Ryan, Leia, Aaron, Lanie, Ethan, Lonnie and Jonathan; and 3 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 11:00 am, Friday, December 4, 2015 at Congregation Beth Emeth, 300 W. Lea Boulevard, Wilmington, DE 19802. Shiva will be observed 7:00 pm, Saturday, December 5 and Sunday, December 6 at the home of Neil Hockstein and Carolyn Glazer Hockstein and Monday, December 7 at the late residence. Friends can visit with the family on Sunday, December 6, beginning at 5:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Congregation Beth Emeth, Delaware Hospice (www.delawarehospice.org) or Zaka - Israel Disaster Relief (www.zaka.us).
