Jackie Compton, 67, of Wilmington, DE, passed away peacefully on October 30, 2016, surrounded by her caring family.

Jackie was born in Springfield, Delaware County, PA to the late William and Audrey Compton. She attended the Fuhrman Clinic School for Crippled Children in Philadelphia, PA and Old Forge School in Lima, PA. As a young girl, Jackie represented Easter Seals as a Poster Child and also participated in Variety Club Activities around the Philadelphia area.

In 1981 Jackie moved to The Mary Campbell Center, which would become her home for 35 years. It was here that she was able to pursue her love of life-time learning, taking classes on a daily basis for many years. Jackie also participated in Special Olympics of Delaware, competing in Bocce, Tennis, Swimming, Track and Bowling, earning many ribbons and medals for her accomplishments. In addition, Jackie participated in Best Buddies from the University of Delaware; the Blue Gold game with her buddy of many years, the late Peggy Sullivan Morrissey; the Mancus Foundation; Easter Seals; and volunteered or worked on a part-time basis at local businesses. Jackie kept very busy participating in a large variety of activities offered at Mary Campbell Center such as swimming, cooking class, ceramics, music classes, shopping and attending camps.

Jackie delighted in spending time with her family, most especially with her 7 nieces and nephews and recently with her 9 great nieces and nephews, keeping track of all of them with a quick glance of the photo collage on her tray. Jackie's favorite memories are of family trips to the New Jersey shore with "the whole gang" and attending wonderful family wedding celebrations. A special thanks to Sarah Cephas and Glay Jones for assisting Jackie so that she could be a part of these Crazy Compton Family activities!

Along with her parents, Jackie was predeceased by her brother, David Compton of Springfield, PA. She is survived by her brothers Bill Compton (Karen) of South Seaside Park, NJ; Stephen Compton (Donna) of West Chester, PA; and her sister Susan Dunbar (Pete) of Hockessin, DE.
