James J. Stirparo Obituary
James J. Stirparo

AGE: 86 • "Jimmy Strip"

James J. Stirparo, of Wilmington, DE, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, Wednesday, July 27, 2016. Jim was a man of great faith which was demonstrated through his heart of love and compassion. Jim proudly served his country in the US Army during the Korean War where he received several awards including the Combat Infantry Badge and Bronze Star. Jim was employed by Delmarva Power and retired after 33 years of service. He was a faithful member of St. Helena's Church for over 40 years and past member of St. Anthony's Roman Catholic Church for many years, where he volunteered countless hours, which included producing and directing numerous Italian shows at Fournier Hall. Jim's greatest joy was his wife and family whom he loved and cherished. He also enjoyed playing his guitar, singing, and making people laugh.

Jim will be dearly missed by his loving wife of 61 years, Rita Fierro Stirparo; children, Lorraine Lattanzi, Steven Stirparo (Kathy), Maryann Stirparo, and Rita Stirparo; grandchildren, Vinnie, Dan (Tara), Nate, Zach, Matt, Kate, and Luke; great grandchildren, Aniyah and Nora; brother, Tom Stirparo (Millie); and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and "adopted" grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Giovanni and Carmella Barba Stirparo; brothers, Phil, Frank and Joe Stirparo; and former son-in-law, Lou Lattanzi.

The family sincerely thanks VITAS Hospice (especially Rebecca, Lisa, Liz, Nancy, and Moses), the VA aides, Dr. David Estock and Dr. Haroon Raja for their loving care and support.

A visitation will be held Tuesday, August 2, 2016 from 10-11:30 AM in St. Helena's Church, 602 Philadelphia Pike, Wilmington, DE 19809 followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 AM. Burial will follow at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery at 2 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Jim's memory to Delaware Veterans Home, 100 Delaware Veterans Blvd., Milford, DE 19963.
