James R. McCrary

AGE: 69 • Wilmington

James R. McCrary passed away on March 6, 2016. James was born in Martinsville, VA on October 6, 1946 to the late Robert and Grace (Holliday) McCrary. He proudly served his country as a member of the U.S. Air Force as well as the U.S. Army Reserves for over 33 years. He was a skilled cook and also enjoyed baking, most notably his specialties of brownies and two-tiered coconut cakes. James also found joy in computers, crossword puzzles, and taking long walks with his dogs. He was an endlessly selfless and compassionate individual as made evident in his insistence on being an organ donor. He also took exceptional care of his wife, Mary, for the last three years upon her falling ill. James shard a very special bond with his daughter, Jamie, and cherished time spent with her.

James is survived by his devoted wife of 39 years, Mary Jean (Watts) McCrary; daughter, Jamie Rose McCrary; sister, Rebecca M. Nation of FL; several nieces and nephews; cousin-in-law, Nancy Panaro (Ray); and beloved dogs, Leo and Louie. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Judy Herndon and Elaine Muoio.
