James W. Beall

Age 92, of Wilmington DE, passed away peacefully at the Country House on July 4, 2016.

Born on Feb. 13, 1924, Jim was originally from Rochester, NY. The only child of Edwin Kay Beall and Edith Teare Beall, he was an Eagle Scout who graduated from Hobart College as an ensign in the Navy V-12 program, class of 1944. He served during WWII from 1944 to 1946 in the Atlantic and Pacific on the USS Naifeh DE 352. Jim was later recalled to active duty to the staff of the Supreme Allied Commander Atlantic located in Norfolk, VA. Lieutenant James W. Beall was honorably discharged in 1954.

Jim retired from DuPont in 1985 after 37 years with the company. He became one of DuPont's first computer programmers and was instrumental in originating a computerized payroll system for several DuPont plants. A highlight of Jim's time at DuPont came when he was transferred to Geneva, Switzerland in 1965. The family lived there three years and enjoyed the opportunity to travel throughout Europe.

Jim was preceded in death (Sept 2006) by his wife of 55 years, Jean Hollingsworth Beall. They lived in Windybush for over 50 years, however, since 2010 Jim resided at the Country House.

During retirement Jim became very involved in genealogy and researched both his and his wife's family histories. He was a longtime member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church and volunteered there for many years in various ways. Jim also was an active member of the Sons of the American Revolution.

He is survived by his children, Dr. John R. Beall (Susan), Leah B. McRae (David), Laura B. Slavik (Paul). Grandchildren are Mollie Courage (Caleb), Angela Beall, Dana McRae, Jenna McRae, William James Slavik and three great grandchildren Charlotte and Silas Courage, and Alexander Beall.

Jim will be remembered as a devoted, loving husband, father and grandfather.

A visitation will be held on Friday July 8 from 11:00-12:00 followed by a service at 12:00 at St. Paul's United Methodist Church, 1314 Foulk Rd. Wilmington 19803. Burial will follow in Chester Bethel Cemetery, Foulk Rd.
