"Uncle Jim"

AGE: 97 • Wilmington

James W. Palese, 97 of Wilmington, DE passed away in the comfort of his home on Tuesday, August 16, 2016.

Mr. Palese worked at Pusey & Jones Shipbuilding Corporation before volunteering with the United States Navy Air Corps in March 1943. During World War II, he served as a Second Class Petty Officer, an Aerial Gunner and Combat Air Crewman. Upon his honorable discharge in 1946, he worked at the Mullen Clothing Store, American Car and Foundry, and Pusey & Jones Corporation. His last position was as a salesman with Delaware Beverage Company for 40 years.

Mr. Palese was a graduate of Goldey Beacom College, past president of the Dr. Churchill Public Speaking Club, and a member of the VFW Atterbury Post. A 32nd Degree Mason, he was a member of Christiana Lodge #35, the Scottish Rite -Delaware Consistory and the Shrine Club of Delaware.

His beloved wife of 60 years, Ethel "Essie" (Veasey) Palese, passed away on February 11, 2008. He was also predeceased by his parents, Daniel and Minnie Palese; and his brothers, Danny and Andrew Palese.

Uncle Jim is survived by several nieces, nephews and their families.

Visitation will be held at the Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Road, Pike Creek on Wednesday, August 24 from 10:00-11:15AM. A Celebration of Uncle Jim's Life will begin at 11:15AM, with interment to follow in the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Mr. Palese may be made to Disabled American Veterans, PO Box 14301, Cincinnati, OH 45250-0301 (www.dav.org).
