James W. Rummel

James William Rummel, age 79, of Rising Sun, MD, passed away suddenly on Thursday, October 8, 2015. Born in Johnstown, PA, on March 9, 1936, he was the son of the late Harry C. and Mary Kauffman Rummel.

A U.S. Army National Guard veteran, Mr. Rummel retired from the U.S. Postal Service in June 2000 after 35 years of service. He was currently working at the Walmart, North East, MD, where he enjoyed his co-workers and the many people he met there. Mr. Rummel was a member for 53 years of Newark Wesleyan Church, Newark, DE, where he sang in the choir, served as a greeter and an usher, and had been very involved with the youth ministry and softball team. He liked to frequent yard sales in the area and going fishing with his grandson. Mr. Rummel always looked forward to his Friday lunch dates with his "boys," Ray Young and Phil Tobin.

Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Betty J. Blackiston Rummel; daughter, Janice Rummel Moore, Rising Sun, MD, and her husband, David; two grandchildren, James A. Moore and wife, Alicia, and Julie Moore Owens and husband, Jared; three great-grandchildren whom he delighted in each day, Liza, Brady and Laina; sister, Floretta R. Thomas, New Castle, DE; as well as his beloved dog, Holly.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Rummel was preceded in death by his siblings, Mae Rummel Dawson, Ruth Rummel Hess, and Harry C. Rummel, Jr.

He was a very kind and loving man. We loved him very much and he will be missed by all of us.

Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, October 17, 2015, at Newark Wesleyan Church, 708 W. Church Road, Newark, DE, where visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Interment with military honors will be in Rose Bank Cemetery, Calvert, MD.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to the Newark Wesleyan Church, in care of Hicks Home for Funerals, 103 W. Stockton Street, Elkton, MD 21921.
