Jane Hearn West Obituary
Jane Hearn West

Jane H. West, 91, a lifelong resident of Delaware, passed on March 19, 2016 at Seasons Hospice surrounded by her family.

Jane was born in Wilmington to Stanley B. and Grace W. Hearn, and, with her three brothers, was raised in the family home on Washington Street. The family spent decades of summer seasons at the Hearn family home on Olive Avenue in Rehoboth Beach where Jane enjoyed entertaining her friends and family and soaking up the sun to have a Bermuda tan. She attended local schools and graduated from P. S. du Pont High School. After graduation, Jane began her working career in the office of Hearn Brothers - the family business founded in 1919 by her father and uncle. At its pinnacle, Hearn Brothers operated seven full-service grocery stores, pharmacies, and residential real estate holdings in the Wilmington area. Jane worked until her children were born and she then was a stay at home mother. Later in her life, Jane worked for the Delaware Hospital in Human Resources and then at Forwood Manor.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, John and David Hearn. Jane is survived by her two children, David Bradford West (Karen) and Barbara West Ross; three grandchildren: Jeremy Ross (Valerie), Lindsay Ross (Jason Zych) and Joshua Ross; four great-grandchildren: Isabella and Tristan Ross, Jenna Gailey and Blake Zych; her brother and sister-in-law, Stanley and Betty Hearn; sister-in-law, Eloise Hearn; and nieces and nephews.

A service will be held at 2pm, Tuesday, March 22 at the McCrery and Harra Funeral Home, 3924 Concord Pike, Talleyville (Route 202, south of Silverside Road) where friends may call after 1:30. Jane will be buried privately with her father at Riverview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests honoring Jane's memory by sending a memorial contribution to .
