Jane Hilda Ashbaugh Obituary
Jane Hilda Ashbaugh

AGE: 98 • Wilmington

Jane Ashbaugh died peacefully at her home on November 6, 2016. She was born September of 1918 in Butler, PA, the daughter of the later Walter and Eva Mortland. Jane was married to Robert H. Ashbaugh for 54 years until his death in 1994. Jane and Bob lived in Pennsylvania, Ohio, the Panama Canal Zone, and in 1968 moved to Wilmington where Bob was the Assistant Boy Scout Executive until his retirement.

Jane was active at St. Paul's United Methodist Church since 1968 in the Sunday School, Vacation Bible School and various other study groups. The Searches and Seekers group met at her home each Tuesday for over 20 years.

In recognition of over 5000 volunteer hours at the Veterans Hospital she received a certificate from the Red Cross, this service spanned 25 years. At the age 75, Jane began to take infants in the foster care program and cared for 17 infants, many drug dependent at birth. She picked the infants up at the hospital at their birth and cared for them in her home. She was still in touch with many of them. This service went on until she was 85 years of age.

The past two Christmas seasons Jane could be found at the Concord Mall, ringing the bell for the Salvation Army.

Jane was predeceased by her sister Ruth in 2015, son Robert Jr. in 1969 and husband Bob in 1994. Survivors include daughter Connie Heasley of Baltimore, MD; grandsons Scott Heasley (Alison) of Woodbridge, VA and Todd Heasley (Amie) of Weare, NH; great grandsons Ryan and Corbin Heasley of Weare, NH; 3 nieces and their spouses and many friends.

A celebration of life will be held at 12 noon on Thursday, November 10 at St. Paul's United Methodist Church, 1314 Foulk Rd., Wilmington, DE 19803 where friends are invited to a visitation beginning at 11 am. A reception will follow the service in the church hall. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made in Jane's name to St. Paul's United Methodist Church, or the Nemours Fund of Children's Health for Jessup Street., Patient and Family Support, 1600 Rockland Rd., Wilmington, DE 19803.
