Jean M. "Jeanie" Wood

AGE: 50 • Hockessin

Jean M. "Jeanie" Wood, age 50, passed away peacefully at home on July 27, 2016 with her loving family by her side. Born in Boston, MA, she is the daughter of Eugene J. and the late Margaret T. Loreth.

Jeanie was a graduate of Braintree High School Class of 1984, then she continued her education at Northeastern University where she graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Finance in 1989. For the past 26 years, Jeanie was a Financial Reporting Specialist, where she had worked in Mutual Fund Accounting with PFPC and BNY Mellon. She was a parishioner of St. Mary of the Assumption Parish, where she taught Religious Education in past years. Jeanie had also been the Treasurer of the PTA at H.B. DuPont Middle School for several years.

Jeanie's children were the center of her life. Every moment was focused on spending time with her children and attending their sporting and band events. She loved chaperoning their band and field trips, watching them excel at baseball, soccer and softball, as well as compete with Odyssey of the Mind. Jeanie treasured her trips to the beach, Cape Cod and Boston to spend time with her family, especially for the Fourth of July.

In her spare time, Jeanie enjoyed scrapbooking and cheering on her favorite teams, the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots. She was a huge U2 fan and never missed seeing them through the years on their US Tour.

Jeanie was predeceased by her mother, Margaret. She is survived by her husband of 23 years, Kevin M. Wood; her children, Jeffrey M., Jacqueline M. and Emily M. Wood; her father, Eugene J. Loreth; her brothers, Brian J. Loreth, Michael J. Loreth (Linda), and Daniel F. Loreth; her sister, Catherine M. Follett; her closest cousin, Tricia Kelley; her mother-in-law, Molly M. Wood; her sister-in-law, Kelly A. Wood; as well as many nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, July 30 at 11 AM at St. Mary of the Assumption Church, 7200 Lancaster Pike, Hockessin, DE 19707, where family and friends may visit beginning at 9 AM. Interment will follow at St. Patrick's Cemetery, Ashland.
