Jean Evelyn Schafer Collison died peacefully surrounded by loved ones on Thursday, April 6, 2017.

Jean was born and raised in Wilmington and graduated from Wilmington High School in 1942. She then worked for Diamond State Telephone Company as an operator, marrying John Ralph Collison in 1945.

Jean was predeceased by her husband of 66 years, Ralph, her parents, Earl Wyman and Edith Meredith Schafer, and her two sisters, Beatrice Phillips and Annabelle Weidman.

Jean's greatest joy was being a mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She is survived by her two daughters, Lynn Merrill (Bob) of Cape Coral, FL, and Sue Wollard (Jim) of West Grove, PA; grandchildren Blaine Orth (Monica) of Little Rock, AR, Carly Zych (Blair) of Lewes, DE, and Carrie von Koch (Kurt) of Holly Springs, NC; great grandchildren Jarrett Orth, Sydney & Sophia Zych, and Emma, Olivia, Alexandra and Katarina von Koch.

She loved to entertain family and friends with Sunday and holiday meals making each one a special occasion. She also enjoyed good times with her loved ones at her summer home in Keen-wik on the Bay near Fenwick Island, DE. She was a long-time member of the Franz Alamo Club - a group of girls who formed a club in seventh grade, and Concord Presbyterian Church.

Jean's family would like to express sincere appreciation to Rockland Place and Vitas Hospice for the love, support and care she received in her final days.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 12 from 10-11am, followed at 11am by a funeral service at the McCrery & Harra Funeral Home, 3924 Concord Pike. Interment will be at Silverbrook Cemetery.
