Jill Forster Pennington Obituary
Jill Forster Pennington

AGE: 72 • Wilmington

Jill Forster Pennington, 72, of Wilmington, passed away peacefully in Seasons Hospice at Christiana Hospital Wednesday after a brief illness. Her family was lovingly by her side throughout the course of her hospital stay and hospice care.

A lover and devotee of the arts, music, and animals—not necessarily in that order—she was a native of Lancaster, PA and a graduate of John Piersol McCaskey High School in that city. She earned a bachelor's Degree in French and English, with honors, from Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois and after graduation spent a summer in Paris working as an intern for IBM.

Jill lived in Delaware for most of her adult life. Much of her professional career—over 20 years—was devoted to proofreading and editing a wide variety of legal documents at the law firm of Skadden Arps in Wilmington. Previously, she worked for several years in the Music Department at the University of Delaware. She also taught at Sacred Heart Elementary School in Lancaster. Away from the world of work, she was a talented, accomplished artist.

Jill expressed the better parts of her nature in random acts of kindness, whether tending to a sister in hospital following each of two major surgeries or bringing gifts to her niece and grand-nephews after they were evacuated from their home in Japan by the tsunami of 2011.

Jill is survived by her husband, John Pennington of Wilmington; a son, John Marshall Pennington and his wife Elizabeth, of Wilmington; five sisters and brothers: Laurel Plank (Delton) of Pennsburg, PA; Jeff Forster (Cynthia) of New Milford, NJ; Lynn Fitz (John) of Lawton, OK; Gary Forster of Mt. Pleasant, SC; and Gail Deck (Roy III) of Lancaster, PA; and 12 nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, A. Hugh and Mary Jean Light Forster, and by a sister, Sharon Lynn Forster.

To honor Jill's memory, her passionate love of animals, and generous support of rescue efforts, donations may be sent to the Mid-Atlantic Horse Rescue, PO Box 407, Chesapeake City, MD 21915.

The family will welcome visitors on Sunday, April 9 beginning at 10 am at the McCrery & Harra Funeral Home, 3710 Kirkwood Highway, Wilmington with a memorial service to follow at 11 am. Burial will be private.

We have lost a beloved sister, mother, mother-in-law, aunt, wife, friend, and confidante but keep her close in our hearts. Please say a prayer for Jill and do a kindness for others in her name.
