Wilmington

Joan McCaleb Walker Hunt, of Wilmington, Delaware and Seabrook Island, South Carolina, born May 16, 1935, passed away December 28, 2015 at her beloved winter home on Seabrook Island, after a joyous extended Christmas celebration with her husband, children and grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings and is survived by her husband, Jack Hunt, and children Robert (and Joyce) Walker, Susan Hays, Dirk Walker and Will (and Laura) Walker and her ten grandchildren. Joan was born and raised in Texas and studied for her teaching degree at the University of Texas at Austin, finishing at the University of Houston and starting her teaching career while raising her four children in Clear Lake City. She remained a perpetual student taking classes throughout her working career. She married Jack Hunt in 1977 and moved to Wilmington, Delaware, where she taught school for many more years, but remained always an "expatriate Texan."

Joan enjoyed a variety of activities, including bicycling, playing tennis, golf and bridge, square dancing, paddling, skiing, and traveling the world for adventure and to visit her far-flung family. Joan also contributed to her community. She served as secretary, president and past-president of the Rockford Village home association in Wilmington, Delaware. A remembrance gathering will be held at noon on Saturday, January 9, at her Seabrook Island home. In addition, a celebration of her life will be planned this spring in Wilmington, Delaware.
