Joanne (Spitler Dietz) Greenlay

AGE: 78 • Wilmington

Wilmington - Joanne (Spitler Dietz) Greenlay, 78, passed away on April 19, 2016. She was predeceased by her first husband, Clinton B. Dietz, and her second husband, Benjamin Greenlay. Joanne was born on May 7, 1937 in St. Louis, Missouri, the only child of Barbara and Edward Spitler. She grew up in Wilmington, Delaware.

Joanne's love of the theatre began when she was a child, performing with the Wilmington Drama League in Wilmington, Delaware. She pursued her thespian passion, earning a degree in Drama from University of Delaware (class of 1959), and traveling to the Far East with the USO to entertain troops in 1958. Joanne raised her three sons in Connecticut, New York, and Florida before moving to Ipswich, Massachusetts.

She is survived by her sons: David Dietz and his wife, Laura, of Ipswich; Jeffrey Dietz and his wife, Angela Binda, of Reading, Mass.; Kevin Dietz and his wife, Leah Finkelstein, of Los Angeles, Calif. Joanne loved her grandchildren, Madeleine Dietz of Ipswich, and Duncan and Gabriel Dietz of Reading, and was proud of all their accomplishments. She leaves friends and family far and wide who will remember her fun-loving spirit and sense of humor. Arrangements for a memorial service will be made at a later date. Assisting the family is the Morris Funeral Home of Ipswich, MA. To send a condolence to Mrs. Greenlay's family please go to:
