AGE: 86 • Middletown

John A. DeVechio, 86, of Middletown, DE, passed away peacefully on Christmas Eve, December 24, 2016, in Christiana Hospital, Newark, surrounded by his family.

Born in Wilmington, DE, on December 19, 1930, he was the youngest child of Angeline (Citerone) and John DeVechio. He was predeceased by his parents and 7 brothers and sisters.

John will be dearly missed by his beloved wife of 22 years, Janet; his sons, John (Allison) and Francis; his daughters, Donna (Michael) Riesenberger, MaryBeth (Michael) Pala; his stepdaughters, Janet Ann (Joseph) Case, Donna Parks; loving grandchildren, John Michael (Gay), Dana (Nathan), Ryan, Sarah, Katie (Tony), Eric, Michael, Angelina and Anthony; as well as many nieces, nephews and extended family. John was a caring husband, father, Pop-Pop, uncle and friend to all.

A U.S. Army veteran, graduate of Drexel University, John was a mechanical engineer employed at the Dupont Company for 42 years. He was a friendly outgoing man who loved watching sports, especially his beloved New York Yankees. He also enjoyed listening to big band music, Frank Sinatra and Tony Bennett, as well as having a love for traveling and gardening. He was always there to help friends in need and loved spending time with his family, especially making his grandchildren laugh with all his funny faces.

John's family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Seasons Hospice at Christiana Hospital for their kindness and exceptional care in his final few days.

Family and friends are invited to the visitation at St. John the Beloved Church, 907 Milltown Road, Wilmington on Friday, December 30 from 10:00-11:30AM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:30AM. Interment will be held privately.

In lieu of flowers, John's family suggests contributions be made to the , 240 N. James St., Newport, DE 19804 or Faithful Friends, 12 Germay Dr., Wilmington, DE 19804.
