Obituary Condolences

John Buel

AGE: 91 • Lyndonville, Vermont

John Walter Buel, of Lyndonville, Vermont, passed away peacefully at home on October 6 at the age of 91. He was born in Wilmington, Delaware, on July 13, 1924, and was the son of Harry G. and Elsie (Jackson) Buel.

Mr. Buel served as a communications specialist for the Army during World War II, stationed in Egypt and Eritrea. He married Josephine Berretta of Brooklyn, New York, in 1946, and earned a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Delaware in 1949. He taught English in the Delaware Public Schools in Dagsboro and Harrington for many years. With his wife, he also raised chickens for Perdue Farms on their farm in Greenwood.

After retiring in 1985, the Buels moved to Maine, eventually settling in Cherryfield, where they turned a hobby of collecting and dealing fine antiques, porcelain, and paintings into a second act. In 2000, they moved to Irasburg, Vermont, to be closer to family, and continued to enjoy scouring auctions and antique shops for hidden treasures, until Mrs. Buel's passing in 2006.

Mr. Buel is survived by his son, Eric, and his wife, Laura, of Alburgh, Vermont; and their children, Keith and Gwen; and his daughter, Denise Brown, of Lyndonville; her son, Alex, and his wife, Tonia; and her daughters, Marion and Elizabeth. He was predeceased by his wife of 60 years; his sister, Ada Virginia Billam; and his son-in-law, Otho R. Brown.

In accordance with his wishes, there was no service. Condolences may be shared privately at www.guibordfh.com.
