John "Jack" Cordrey

AGE: 88 • Portsville

John "Jack" Cordrey, age 88, of Portsville, passed away on March 27, 2017 at his home surround by his loving family. Born in Laurel, he is the son of the late Glen Elijah Cordrey and Elizabeth Boyce Cordrey.

Jack graduated from Laurel High School in the Class of "1946". During his high school career, he served as class president, and was a talented left handed pitcher for the Laurel Bulldog's baseball team. After graduation, he served his country in the United States Navy from 1946-1948. When he returned home from the Navy, he was accepted into the University of Delaware, where he earned a Bachelor's degree in agriculture. After graduating from the University of Delaware in "1952, he managed "Broad Creek Estates" poultry and turkey farm until his retirement. He also had an orchard and was a bee keeper. Jack's first love and most important treasure in life was his wife, children, and grandchildren. He was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church and loved hunting with his beagles.

Jack is survived by his loving wife Lois Cordrey. His children; Glen Cordrey, Joyce Cofield, and Jan James and her husband Kevin. His sister Joyce Kershaw and her husband William. Grandchildren; Rod Cofield (Sara), Paige Cofield, Jackie Magagnotti (Cole), and Melanie James. He was anticipating the arrival of his new great grandson Clark Cofield this year. Several nieces and nephews also survive him.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his grandchildren; John Cofield and Eric Cofield, and his brother Kenney Cordrey.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 1, 2017 at 12:00pm at the Hannigan, Short, Disharoon Funeral Home, 700 West Street, Laurel, Delaware 19956. A viewing will be held from 11:00 am-12:00pm at the funeral home. Reverend Dean Perdue will officiate. Interment will be private.
