John Elton Moran Obituary
John Elton Moran

AGE: 69 •

1947-2016. John Elton Moran passed away peacefully on Monday, September 5th at the age of 69 at his home in Newark, Delaware surrounded by his loving family. Born in Rising Sun, Maryland, he is the son of Isobel E. Carter Moran of Nottingham, PA and the late Elton R. Moran.

He was raised in Oxford, PA and graduated from the Oxford Area High School and Universal Technical School, Falls Church, N.J. He spent his career employed in various aspects of the auto industry and as an auto collision appraiser for Nationwide Insurance Company. In his later years, he worked in private security.

John is a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, Bear, Delaware, Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #2666, Oxford and the Irish Cultural Society. John was a generous, kind and caring man, always with a ready smile and a twinkle in his eyes. He enjoyed the simple pleasures of life and helping those in need. His favorite past times were reading, researching his Irish ancestry and listening to classic Rock and Roll music. Known as a "Gearhead", he enjoyed NASCAR and attending drag racing events and car shows. John was happiest in the company of family and friends.

John will be dearly missed by his devoted wife and best friend for 43 years, Shirley (Mackay) Moran; his mother; one sister, Jane Wright (Mike) of Maiden, North Carolina; nephews, Michael Temple, Jimmy Mackay, Jason Mackay and Raymond McNemar; nieces, Tammy Search, Beverly Thompson, Cindy Allen and Kelly McNemar; brother-in-law James Mackay II (Theresa); sisters-in-law, Nancy Mackay and Patricia McNemar (Ray). He is the doting uncle to 11 great nieces and nephews. He is also survived by a host of aunts, uncles and cousins.

John was very appreciative and thankful for the care, cards, visits and phone calls from family, friends, nursing staff and medical personnel this past year. John's extraordinary strength and courage throughout his illness came from his belief that one should … "Live Simply, Laugh Often, Love Deeply". In lieu of flowers, contributions to John's memory may be made to his favorite charities: the Little Sisters of the Poor, 185 Salem Church Road, Newark, DE. 19713 or the Food Bank of Delaware, 14 Garfield Way, Newark, De. 19713.

A visitation will be held on Sunday, Sept. 11 from 6 - 8:00 pm at Edward L. Collins Funeral Home, Inc, 86 Pine Street, Oxford, PA.

A funeral mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Monday, Sept. 12 at 11:00 am at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, 345 Bear Christiana Road, Bear, DE where family and friends may visit from 9 - 10:45 am.
