AGE: 88 • Wilmington

John J. Walsh, 88, of Wilmington, DE passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, April 7, 2016.

Jack was born in Philadelphia, PA on February 12, 1928, son of the late John and Catherine (Burns) Walsh. A veteran of World War II, he proudly served our country as a member of the United States Navy Seabees. Jack was an Iron Worker with Local 451 for 35 years and retired in 1990. He was a member of St. John the Beloved Parish, where he was active with the Athletic Association and coached basketball for many years. He also coached baseball with Midway Little League and Millcreek Babe Ruth.

Jack was an excellent dancer, especially the jitterbug, and earned the nickname "twinkle toes". His love of dancing even brought him to meet and marry his beloved wife, Gloria. Jack also loved "good old music" and was a great fan of Nat King Cole. His greatest joy was his family, and he enjoyed attending all events of his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Jack is survived by his wife of 59 years, Gloria (Iannacone) Walsh; his daughter, Cheryl Reinike and his sons, Laurence Davenport and wife, Teresa, and Jack Walsh and wife, Jeanmarie; his grandchildren, Chrissy, Kim, Scott, Lauren, Cassandra, Cory, Ryan, Lindsey, and Kelsey; and his great grandchildren, Mia, Shane, Ella, Joshua, Jacob and Owen, as well as niece Ann Caggiano (John) and nephew John Foote and extended members of the family.

He was predeceased by his daughter, Francine Vann; his grandson, David; and his sisters, Audrey Records and Jean Foote.

Family and friends are invited to visit at the Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Road, Pike Creek on Friday, April 15 from 9:00-10:30AM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. John the Beloved Church, 907 Milltown Road, Wilmington at 11:00AM. Entombment will follow in All Saints Cemetery.
